Research Center Profile

Led by Professor Qin Jiang, a national-level talent, the Hydrogen-Power and Low-Carbon Energy Center is an interdisciplinary R&D team covering the full chain of basic research, technological development and engineering practice. Its core members are recruited from well-known domestic universities and leading enterprises in the aviation and hydrogen-energy sectors. With a total team size of over 30 members, the center boasts collaborative research capabilities integrating industry, academia and research.

The team has long-term expertise in aviation hydrogen-power technologies. It has completed conceptual design, product development and experimental verification for more than ten types of hydrogen-powered aircraft. Key technologies for high-energy-density fuel-cell / lithium-battery hybrid power generation have been achieved. Multiple hydrogen fuel-cell power-system products have been developed, realizing system-level integration of core components including fuel-cell stacks, energy-storage lithium-ion batteries and power-management modules. Relevant technical indicators and engineering capabilities rank among the leading domestic standards.

Building on accumulated core technologies, the center has established a full-chain R&D system centered on hydrogen-powered UAVs, covering R&D of aviation hydrogen-power systems, optimization of hydrogen-electric hybrid energy management, and development of supporting hydrogen-production and hydrogen-refueling equipment. It lays a solid technical foundation for large-scale industrial application of hydrogen energy in aviation.

The team has filed more than 30 patents in hydrogen energy, hydrogen fuel-cell hybrid power systems and hydrogen-powered UAVs. Over the past five years, it has also published over 30 SCI papers in related fields. It possesses solid theoretical foundations and extensive practical experience in the design and manufacturing of hydrogen-powered UAVs.

Relevant series products have been deployed for demonstration applications in scenarios such as forest inspection and protection, power-grid inspection, as well as patrol and security monitoring, delivering remarkable operational performance.

Core Technologies

Composite-cooling aviation fuel-cell stack technology: An innovative domestically-pioneered composite-cooling technology for aviation fuel-cell stacks. It greatly improves the overall performance of fuel cell systems, enabling non-damaged cold start at 40 °C and zero power degradation under high altitude conditions.

High-efficiency hybrid-power energy-management technology: Adaptive topological-structure design for hybrid-power systems combined with high-efficiency energy-management strategies improves overall system operational efficiency and significantly extends UAV flight endurance.

Multi-domain-coupling integrated development technology for flight platforms: Multi-domain coupling is implemented between aircraft operational attitudes and stack reaction requirements, as well as between aircraft design and gas flow channels. This enhances system energy-utilization efficiency and reduces the number of functional components and control requirements.
